Learning ballet is wonderful for children even if they never become dancers. It is wonderful because it teaches discipline, grace, and manners.

Our Founder, Katia Kullengren, is driven by a deeply personal belief that every child deserves the chance to experience ballet, regardless of their background.
In her recent interview with 2SER, she shares how the organisation is redefining who gets to dance—challenging the perception of ballet as exclusive, and instead making it accessible, inclusive, and possible for all.

ROSS PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL, NT
I would like to express my gratitude and support for the Ballet Without Borders program, which has been extremely beneficial for my Year 2 students.
When we first began at the start of the term, many students were unsure about participating—particularly the boys, who initially felt embarrassed by the idea of ballet. Now, in Week 9, I amdelighted to see that most of the class joins in with confidence and enthusiasm.
Miriam has been a wonderful instructor. She is patient, highly skilled, and able to manage the challenges of teaching in such a large open space. Her experience and calm presence have made a real difference, and she has done an excellent job engaging every student.
I would highly recommend Ballet Without Borders to other schools, as it has been a truly valuable experience for our students.

“It has been special to see students participate in learning ballet, classical music history of the art form of ballet. Lauryn was a fantastic teacher and role model for our students who look forward every week to their dance class. We would highly recommend Ballet Without Borders”

“It is an amazing opportunity that many children would not be able to experience, mainly due to cost and cultural barriers. It has been special to see students participate in learning ballet in a fun and engaging way. Seeing not just girls but boys participate as well helps change the narrative and stigma associated with ballet.”
Daryl McKay, Principal, Bonnyrigg Heights Primary School
A term of ballet at Darkinjung Barker, a 100% First Nation school on the Central Coast. The children had an amazing time and we have been asked back for a second term. Taught in collaboration with Ella Havelka, ex dancer with the Australian Ballet and the first Aboriginal dancer with the company, Ella was able to bring aspects of traditional dance into the mix. A wonderful experience for all.
DECEPTION BAY PRIMARY SCHOOL, QLD
It has been special to see students participate in learning ballet moves, classical music, history of this art form and terminology in a fun and engaging way. Seeing not just girls but boys participate as well helps change the narrative and stigma associated with ballet.
Ballet Without Borders has created a tailored curriculum that can be taught at any school without the usual ballet studio requirements. All resources and qualified teachers are provided and their curriculum matches the Queensland education framework outcomes.

Darlington Primary School holds a special place in Ballet Without Borders’ journey as our very first South Australian partner school. With an incredible 67 different cultures represented across its student community, many children come from non-English speaking households and face barriers to accessing the arts. Through ballet, these students are discovering not only movement and music, but confidence, discipline, and a sense of belonging.
It was absolutely fabulous, they all enjoyed it so much. Sarah is the most beautiful and perfect teacher, we are so lucky. Thankyou so very much.
